Mermaid Press is currently accepting submissions in Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Historical Fiction. We do not publish any books that do not fit into these categories. All of our books are aimed at adult audiences. We do not publish Young Adult nor Children's literature. Please only query if the work fits all the criteria outlined in this website and if the novel is complete. 

We are looking for smart adventures, fast-paced stories with intricate plots and complex characters whose challenges include male-female relationships in unique and/or difficult circumstances. Science fiction and fantasy novels should be innovative and original. Historical plots should be well researched. We prefer medieval European settings, but will consider other settings if the author is qualified by education and/or experience to interpret the period. We are not interested in Victorian settings.

For electronic submissions: In the body of your e-mail, please make sure to include your name, your contact information, the name of your novel, the genre, and the completed manuscript's word count. You should also include a short blurb summarizing your novel, thirty to forty words at most, and a short synopsis of no more than three-hundred words. The first 50 pages may also be attached as a MS Word document or pdf, double spaced, 12-pt. type. Please place the genre (SF, Fantasy, Historical Fiction) in the subject line. E-mail to submission@merpress.com. 

We prefer electronic submissions, paper submissions can be sent as listed below. Please give us extra time to respond to mailed submissions.

For paper submission: Please include the same materials as noted above for electronic submissions. Also include the first 50 pages, double spaced, 12-pt. as well as the genre you are submitting for. Please include a SASE of sufficient size and postage for return of materials if you want them returned or a simple SASE if not.

Please allow six to eight weeks for a reply, longer if you decide to query by snail mail. Simultaneous submissions are fine. We understand that you're working hard to get your manuscript published. Best wishes from all of us at Mermaid Press.
